Marie Dion (Mi’Kmaq, Algonquin, Blackfoot)
Dion walks the path of her Northeast Woodlands ancestral lineage and is an author, artist, speaker, and teacher and shares the messages of her ancestors through her life experiences. She honors the legacy of her great- great- grandmother, Marie Dion, by writing under her name. Marie hid her Native identity to protect her family at a time when Native children were being taken away and put into residential schools. Two years ago, a poem came to her, word for word, which she believes was communicated to her by her ancestors in spirit. This inspired her to write her first book, titled Journey of a Red Soul. In the summer of 2019, she was guided on an extraordinary journey to the southwest to return a sacred object of her people. This journey is her book, Returning What’s Sacred.
