Bio:
The Tayrona Indigenous Confederation is a grassroots Indigenous organization founded in 1976 by the traditional authorities of the Arhuaco, Kogui, and Wiwa peoples and legally formalized in 1978. It serves as the representative voice of the ancestral movement of the Indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, safeguarding the sacred relationship that connects life, territory, and the natural world.
The Confederation serves as a bridge between ancestral systems of governance and modern governmental institutions. It is guided by the belief that the continuity of life and the future of humanity depend on fostering a meaningful connection between these two ways of understanding and caring for the world.
Grounded in Indigenous principles of peace, harmony, and reciprocity, the Tayrona Indigenous Confederation works to strengthen respectful relationships among institutions, communities, and the land. It recognizes that the survival of the world's peoples depends on collaboration, mutual respect, and the protection of ancestral territories and knowledge.
For the Confederation, peace is not simply the absence of conflict but the presence of shared purpose. Harmony is understood not as uniformity, but as the ability to work together while honoring differences. Within its worldview, the spoken word holds profound significance as a ceremonial, political, and spiritual act, carrying the responsibility of preserving culture, guiding collective action, and sustaining the balance between humanity and Mother Earth.
