Bio:

Deniss Sánchez Aparicio, 44, was born in the district of Quinua, in the province of Huamanga, Ayacucho, Peru. Raised in a family of renowned ceramic artists, she grew up immersed in the rich traditions of Quinua-Ayacucho craftsmanship. As the daughter of artists, Deniss developed a deep passion for researching the customs and cultural heritage of her hometown, which she skillfully transforms into original clay works that reflect the beauty and essence of her community.

Her journey in the arts began at the young age of 12, and over the years, her dedication has brought both personal and familial fulfillment. With her hands as her most valuable tools, she channels her creativity to honor her lineage and strives to carry forward the legacy of her parents and grandparents on both national and international stages.

Deniss was profoundly influenced by her father, Mamerto Sánchez, a pioneer in Ayacucho's artisan movement and a key figure in the establishment and teaching at the Quinua Art Institute. His mission to preserve traditional art through education left a lasting impact on Deniss. Alongside the guidance of her parents and older siblings—her first teachers—she was encouraged to nurture her craft with patience and purpose.

Her work continues to echo the stories, legends, festivals, customs, and myths of the Ayacucho region, ensuring that its cultural memory lives on through every ceramic piece she creates.
